1. یقیناً واقع ہونے والی گھڑیo

1. The surely Inevitable Hour!

2. کیا چیز ہے یقیناً واقع ہونے والی گھڑیo

2. What is the surely Inevitable Hour?

3. اور آپ کو کس چیز نے خبردار کیا کہ یقیناً واقع ہونے والی (قیامت) کیسی ہےo

3. And what has made you alert what (calamity) surely is the Inevitable Hour?

4. ثمود اور عاد نے (جملہ موجودات کو) باہمی ٹکراؤ سے پاش پاش کر دینے والی (قیامت) کو جھٹلایا تھاo

4. Thamud and ‘Ad rejected the (calamity of a) Shattering Gravitational Collision (of all the existent cosmic bodies).

5. پس قومِ ثمود کے لوگ! تو وہ حد سے زیادہ کڑک دار چنگھاڑ والی آواز سے ہلاک کر دئیے گئےo

5. So, as for the people of Thamud, they were destroyed by the extremely violent, Deafening Blast.

6. اور رہے قومِ عاد کے لوگ! تو وہ (بھی) ایسی تیز آندھی سے ہلاک کر دئیے گئے جو انتہائی سرد نہایت گرج دار تھیo

6. And as for the people of ‘Ad, they (too) were destroyed by a violently cold, roaring gale.

7. اللہ نے اس (آندھی) کو ان پر مسلسل سات راتیں اور آٹھ دن مسلّط رکھا، سو تُو ان لوگوں کو اس (عرصہ) میں (اس طرح) مرے پڑے دیکھتا (تو یوں لگتا) گویا وہ کھجور کے گرے ہوئے درختوں کی کھوکھلی جڑیں ہیںo

7. Allah made that (gale) seize them for consecutive seven nights and eight days. So, you could see them lying dead (during that time as if) they were hollow roots of the uprooted palm trees.

8. سو تُو کیا ان میں سے کسی کو باقی دیکھتا ہےo

8. So do you see any of them surviving?

9. اور فرعون اور جو اُس سے پہلے تھے اور (قومِ لوط کی) اُلٹی ہوئی بستیوں (کے باشندوں) نے بڑی خطائیں کی تھیںo

9. And Pharaoh and those before him and (the dwellers of) the overthrown towns (of the community of Lut [Lot]) committed grave sins.

10. پس انہوں نے (بھی) اپنے رب کے رسول کی نافرمانی کی، سو اللہ نے انہیں نہایت سخت گرفت میں پکڑ لیاo

10. So they (also) disobeyed the Messenger of their Lord. And Allah seized them with a mighty seizure.

11. بے شک جب (طوفانِ نوح کا) پانی حد سے گزر گیا تو ہم نے تمہیں رواں کشتی میں سوار کر لیاo

11. Indeed, when the water (of the Deluge) overflowed the limit, We carried you in the floating Ark,

12. تاکہ ہم اس (واقعہ) کو تمہارے لئے (یادگار) نصیحت بنا دیں اور محفوظ رکھنے والے کان اسے یاد رکھیںo

12. So that We make this (episode a reminding) lesson of warning for you and that the retentive ears may retain it.

13. پھر جب صور میں ایک مرتبہ پھونک ماری جائے گےo

13. Then when the Trumpet will be blown once,

14. اور زمین اور پہاڑ (اپنی جگہوں سے) اٹھا لئے جائیں گے، پھر وہ ایک ہی بار ٹکرا کر ریزہ ریزہ کر دیے جائیں گےo

14. And the earth and mountains will be removed (from their places), they will then be crushed to sand particles in a single crash.

15. سو اُس وقت واقع ہونے والی (قیامت) برپا ہو جائے گےo

15. Then that will be the Hour when the surely Inevitable (calamity) will occur.

16. اور (سب) آسمانی کرّے پھٹ جائیں گے اور یہ کائنات (ایک نظام میں مربوط اور حرکت میں رکھنے والی قوت کے ذریعے سیاہ) شگافوں٭ پر مشتمل ہو جائے گیo

٭ واھیۃ .... الوَھی: وَھِی، یَھِی، وَھیًا کا معنیٰ ہے: شق فی الادیم والثوب ونحوھما، یقال: وَھِیَ الثوب أی انشَقّ وَ تَخَرّقَ (چمڑے، کپڑے یا اس قسم کی دوسری چیزوں کا پھٹ جانا اور ان میں شگاف ہو جانا۔ اِسی لئے کہا جاتا ہے: کپڑا پھٹ گیا اور اس میں شگاف ہوگیا) .... (المفردات، لسان العرب، قاموس المحیط، المنجد وغیرہ)۔ اسے جدید سائنس نے black holes سے تعبیر کیا ہے۔

16. And (all) the heavenly bodies will split apart and this universe will come to comprise (black) holes (by means of a force which coordinates and keeps the system going).*

* The word wahiya means wear and tear of some leather, cloth or similar substance with a hole developing in it. Statements like ‘cloth is worn with a hole in it’ refer to the same phenomenon that modern science has described as ‘black holes’. Al-Mufradat, Lisan al-‘Arab, Qamus al-Muhit, al-Munjid, etc.

17. اور فرشتے اس کے کناروں پر کھڑے ہوں گے، اور آپ کے رب کے عرش کو اس دن ان کے اوپر آٹھ (فرشتے یا فرشتوں کے طبقات) اٹھائے ہوئے ہوں گےo

17. And the angels will be standing on its edges and above them that Day, and eight (angels or parties of angels) will be carrying the Throne of your Lord.

18. اُس دن تم (حساب کے لئے) پیش کیے جاؤ گے، تمہاری کوئی پوشیدہ بات چھپی نہ رہے گیo

18. That Day you will be made to appear (for reckoning). Nothing of your secrets will remain hidden.

19. سو وہ شخص جس کا نامۂ اَعمال اس کے دائیں ہاتھ میں دیا جائے گا تو وہ (خوشی سے) کہے گا: آؤ میرا نامۂ اَعمال پڑھ لوo

19. So the one who will be given his record in the right hand will say (pleased): ‘Come and read my record.

20. میں تو یقین رکھتا تھا کہ میں اپنے حساب کو (آسان) پانے والا ہوںo

20. I firmly believed that I would find my account (easy).’

21. سو وہ پسندیدہ زندگی بسر کرے گاo

21. So he will live a pleasant life,

22. بلند و بالا جنت میںo

22. In an elevated lofty Paradise,

23. جس کے خوشے (پھلوں کی کثرت کے باعث) جھکے ہوئے ہوں گےo

23. The clusters of its fruits hanging low (due to abundance).

24. (اُن سے کہا جائے گا:) خوب لطف اندوزی کے ساتھ کھاؤ اور پیو اُن (اَعمال) کے بدلے جو تم گزشتہ (زندگی کے) اَیام میں آگے بھیج چکے تھےo

24. (It will be said to them:) ‘Eat and drink rejoicing, in recompense of (your deeds) that you had sent forward during the days of your past (life).’

25. اور وہ شخص جس کا نامۂ اَعمال اس کے بائیں ہاتھ میں دیا جائے گا تو وہ کہے گا: ہائے کاش! مجھے میرا نامۂ اَعمال نہ دیا گیا ہوتاo

25. And as for him who will be given his record in his left hand, he will say: ‘Would that I had not been given my record!

26. اور میں نہ جانتا کہ میرا حساب کیا ہےo

26. And would that I had not known about my account!

27. ہائے کاش! وُہی (موت) کام تمام کر چکی ہوتیo

27. Alas! Would that (death) had settled my affair once and for all!

28. (آج) میرا مال مجھ سے (عذاب کو) کچھ بھی دور نہ کر سکاo

28. Today my wealth has not been able to keep (the torment) away from me even a little.

29. مجھ سے میری قوت و سلطنت (بھی) جاتی رہیo

29. My power and domain have (also) gone from me.’

30. (حکم ہوگا:) اسے پکڑ لو اور اسے طوق پہنا دوo

30. (It will be commanded:) ‘Seize him and put him in neck-fetter.

31. پھر اسے دوزخ میں جھونک دوo

31. Then cast him into Hell.

32. پھر ایک زنجیر میں جس کی لمبائی ستر گز ہے اسے جکڑ دوo

32. Then bind him tightly in a seventy yard long chain.

33. بے شک یہ بڑی عظمت والے اللہ پر ایمان نہیں رکھتا تھاo

33. Verily, he did not believe in Allah, the Lord of Majesty.

34. اور نہ محتاج کو کھانا کھلانے پر رغبت دلاتا تھاo

34. Nor did he urge the feeding of the poor.

35. سو آج کے دن نہ اس کا کوئی گرم جوش دوست ہےo

35. So Today he does not have any warm friend.

36. اور نہ پیپ کے سوا (اُس کے لئے) کوئی کھانا ہےo

36. Nor has he anything to eat except filthy pus,

37. جسے گنہگاروں کے سوا کوئی نہ کھائے گاo

37. That no one will eat except the sinners.’

38. سو میں قَسم کھاتا ہوں ان چیزوں کی جنہیں تم دیکھتے ہوo

38. So I swear by the things that you see,

39. اور ان چیزوں کی (بھی) جنہیں تم نہیں دیکھتےo

39. And by those things that you do not see.

40. بے شک یہ (قرآن) بزرگی و عظمت والے رسول (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) کا (منزّل من اللہ) فرمان ہے، (جسے وہ رسالۃً اور نیابۃً بیان فرماتے ہیں)o

40. Assuredly, this (Qur’an) is the (God-sent) commandment of the Exalted and Glorious Messenger ([blessings and peace be upon him] which he expounds as a Messenger and as a Vicegerent).

41. اور یہ کسی شاعر کا کلام نہیں (کہ اَدبی مہارت سے خود لکھا گیا ہو)، تم بہت ہی کم یقین رکھتے ہوo

41. And it is not the poetry of a poet (composed with literary expertise). You have but little faith.

42. اور نہ (یہ) کسی کاہن کا کلام ہے (کہ فنی اَندازوں سے وضع کیا گیا ہو)، تم بہت ہی کم نصیحت حاصل کرتے ہوo

42. Nor is it the word of a fortune-teller (designed by skilful guesswork). You take but little advice.

43. (یہ) تمام جہانوں کے رب کی طرف سے نازل شدہ ہےo

43. (This) is sent down by the Lord of all the worlds.

44. اور اگر وہ ہم پر کوئی (ایک) بات بھی گھڑ کر کہہ دیتےo

44. And had he ascribed to Us even a (single) fabricated thing,

45. تو یقیناً ہم اُن کو پوری قوت و قدرت کے ساتھ پکڑ لیتےo

45. We would have seized him with full force and might,

46. پھر ہم ضرور اُن کی شہ رگ کاٹ دیتےo

46. Then certainly We would have cut his life artery,

47. پھر تم میں سے کوئی بھی (ہمیں) اِس سے روکنے والا نہ ہوتاo

47. Then no one of you could have held (Us) back from it.

48. اور پس بلاشبہ یہ (قرآن) پرہیزگاروں کے لئے نصیحت ہےo

48. So no doubt this (Qur’an) is direction and guidance for the Godfearing.

49. اور یقیناً ہم جانتے ہیں کہ تم میں سے بعض لوگ (اس کھلی سچائی کو) جھٹلانے والے ہیںo

49. And surely, We know that some of you are the beliers (of this open truth).

50. اور واقعی یہ کافروں کے لئے (موجبِ) حسرت ہےo

50. And surely, this is (a cause of) bitter regret for the disbelievers.

51. اور بے شک یہ حق الیقین ہےo

51. And undeniably, it is the truth of Absolute Certitude.

52. سو (اے حبیبِ مکرّم!) آپ اپنے عظمت والے رب کے نام کی تسبیح کرتے رہیںo

52. So, (O Esteemed Beloved,) glorify your Lord, Most Magnificent, with persistence.
