Surah an-Nisa Ayat 15 with English Translation

15. اور تمہاری عورتوں میں سے جو بدکاری کا ارتکاب کر بیٹھیں تو ان پر اپنے لوگوں میں سے چار مردوں کی گواہی طلب کرو، پھر اگر وہ گواہی دے دیں تو ان عورتوں کو گھروں میں بند کر دو یہاں تک کہ موت ان کے عرصۂ حیات کو پورا کر دے یا اللہ ان کے لئے کوئی راہ (یعنی نیا حکم) مقرر فرما دےo

15. As for those of your women who commit an indecent act (i.e. adultery), produce against them four witnesses from among yourselves. If they testify, confine them to (their) homes until (natural) death completes their term of life, or Allah ordains a (different) course for them.*

* This verse makes the husband responsible for procuring four witnesses to establish the accusation. Otherwise, the accused will not be liable to the hadd (i.e. the prescribed punishment). Suppose the available evidence does not fulfil the requirement mentioned above; in that case, it will fall under the category of crimes liable to discretionary punishment (ta‘zir). This principle establishes the guidelines for judges and legal authorities for trial and prosecution. Moreover, the sentence of life imprisonment was later repealed and replaced by the ‘hadd’ punishment.

15. And those of your women who commit adultery, call in from your men four witnesses against them. Then if they produce evidence, confine those women to their houses till death completes their term of life, or Allah ordains a way (i.e., a new injunction) for them.

15. Waallatee yateena alfahishata min nisaikum faistashhidoo AAalayhinna arbaAAatan minkum fain shahidoo faamsikoohunna fee albuyooti hatta yatawaffahunna almawtu aw yajAAala Allahu lahunna sabeelan

15. Og de av kvinnene deres som begår hor, be om fire vitner av menn blant dere mot dem. Hvis de framlegger bevis, så hold dem i husarrest til døden gjør slutt på livet deres eller Allah forordner en vei (et nytt rettslig påbud) for dem.

15. और तुम्हारी औरतों में से जो बदकारी का इर्तिकाब कर बैठें तो उन पर अपने लोगों में से चार मर्दों की गवाही तलब करो, फिर अगर वोह गवाही दे दें तो उन औरतों को घरों में बन्द कर दो यहां तक कि मौत उनके अ़र्सए हयात को पूरा कर दे या अल्लाह उनके लिए कोई राह (यानी नया हुक्म) मुक़र्रर फरमा दे।

১৫. আর তোমাদের নারীদের মধ্যে যারা ব্যভিচারে লিপ্ত হয় তাদের বিরুদ্ধে তোমাদের মধ্য থেকে চারজন পুরুষকে সাক্ষী হিসেবে আহ্বান করো। অতঃপর যদি তারা সাক্ষ্য প্রদান করে তবে সে নারীদেরকে গৃহে অবরুদ্ধ করো যে পর্যন্ত না তাদের মৃত্যু হয় অথবা আল্লাহ্ তাদের জন্যে কোনো (নতুন বিধান দেন কিংবা) ব্যবস্থা করেন।

واللاتي يأتين الفاحشة من نسآئكم فاستشهدوا عليهن أربعة منكم فإن شهدوا فأمسكوهن في البيوت حتى يتوفاهن الموت أو يجعل الله لهن سبيلا
